COPMI WA

Living with and caring for someone experiencing mental health challenges can be very difficult, especially for children that may not yet fully understand what their mums or dads are going through. To emotionally, mentally and physically help children in these challenging times, COPMI was created as a national initiative funded by the Australian Government. In WA, COPMI supports thousands of children and other family members through several programs and services to help them cope with living with parents experiencing mental health challenges.

COPMI WA is a network of families, professionals, and organisations committed to raising awareness of the needs of children and families where a parent has a mental illness and improving their access to information, resources and support services.

  • Bringing together organisations to support collaboration to better understand and respond to the needs of children and families where a parent has a mental illness
  • Sharing information about resources, education, events, and services
  • Highlighting opportunities for family members to contribute to resource development, education and awareness-raising activities, and service and policy evaluations

If you want access to this network of support and resources for children caring for parents experiencing mental health challenges, HelpingMinds can refer you to people at COMPI WA. For more information email info@helpingminds.org.au  or visit the COMPI WA website.

I just want to say you did a great job and the staff here are feeling more confident in this area now after having the presentation with you.

It made the trainees feel they are able to handle the situation professionally and given the tips to look after their own health first. It was so important so THANK YOU! – Little Peoples Place, East Fremantle

Thank you for coming out, I think it was beneficial for my educators. It was very relevant and I think you covered all topics without being overwhelming. – Buggles, Forrestfield

It was great to have you here, and thank you. And it was a great session that has started some very valuable conversations and reflection amongst our Educators. We all found it valid and applicable to the service and our industry. – Goodstart, High Wycombe

HelpingMinds’ Family Link Program can reconnect children and parents experiencing the stress of mental health challenges

At HelpingMinds, part of our support services is to help families affected by mental health issues through various programs. Facilitated by our trained peers and professionals, one course of ours is the Family Link Program which involves a coming together of each family member and talking or doing activities together that can help resolve issues and bring the family closer together. This program is perfect for COPMI families that have been affected by the aftermath of mental health problems in one way or another.
