Do you want to learn how to assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults who are experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis?
The 14-hour Aboriginal Mental Health First Aid course teaches any adult how to provide initial support to an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander adult who is experiencing a mental health concern or crisis, until professional help is received or the crisis resolves.
You can make a real difference in a person’s life – or even save their life.
This course is based on evidence from the expert consensus of Aboriginal mental health professionals, many of whom also have lived experience of mental health concerns.
You will learn how to recognise developing mental health concerns, such as:
- Anxiety disorders
- Depression
- Alcohol and drug concerns
- Psychosis
How to assist during a mental health crisis, such as:
- Panic attack
- Traumatic event
- Self harm, suicidal thoughts & behaviour
- Aggressive behaviour
- Severe effects from alcohol and drug use
