The Peer Support Groups program offered under Carer Gateway and HelpingMinds provides a unique way for carers to meet like-minded people and connect through the power of peer support.
Our aim is to link carers together, enabling them to share stories and connect with people in similar circumstances in a safe and non-judgmental environment.
We will also assist you to build on the skills that you have already developed in your carer role in order to support and guide others who are in a similar situations.
The IPPS program has been designed to provide the foundation for a self-sustaining support group for carers. The program prepares you for the possibility of facilitating your own support group which you can choose to continue if you feel confident. Your Carer Gateway facilitator will be there to support you throughout the process and into the future.
The groups are ongoing at various dates, times and locations throughout the year. Online and face-to-face groups available. This free program focuses on the importance of connection, and finding community, meaning and purpose.
The Peer Support Groups are for adult carers who are supporting a loved one through the challenges associated with disability, mental health, age, addiction or palliative care etc.
Programs will be held throughout the year and run each week for five consecutive weeks or alternatively as a one-off half day group. There will be the option of continuing to meet at dates and times that suit group members.
