The role:
We are looking for individuals with a strong passion and drive for helping people improve their lives. We have a permanent part-time position available located in the Perth East Metro and Armadale area. This position will require some outreach work to community groups in the areas which may be claimed through the organisation’s mileage process.
Responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:
· Provide a counselling service to young people (0-18) at risk of developing mental health issues and adult carers, including Aboriginal and culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) carers (face to face, telephone, email and/or skype;
· Develop and deliver specialised groups and workshops;
· Promote the activities of HelpingMinds® through liaison with local, state and federal government facilities, referral agencies/community groups and other organisations, as necessary;
· Employ both a brief intervention model for working with clients as well as therapeutic interventions where appropriate in line with the HelpingMinds® funding contracts;
· Represent HelpingMinds® at seminars, meetings and workshops as required;
· Participate with the other members of the team to develop appropriate services for all Carers and;
· Advocate for carers.
What you will need to succeed:
This is an opportunity for client focussed Family Support Counsellors with a genuine interest in making a difference. You will have a demonstrated ability to engage and provide counselling support to adults and young people within an individual and group setting.
With a degree-tertiary qualification in Counselling, Psychology or Social Work you MUST have a minimum of 18 months’ experience under this degree and pride yourself on being self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously while continuing to work towards team goals. You must have a demonstrated ability to consult, liaise and maintain close working relationships with other service providers.
Additionally, you will have the ability to provide advocacy services through effective oral and written communication skills.
The successful candidates may be required to work one evening shift a week from 11:30am to 7:36pm.
