2021 NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK

National Reconciliation Week 2021

‘In This Together’ was the theme of last year’s National Reconciliation Week (NRW). It reminded us that whether we are in a crisis or in reconciliation, we are all in this together. We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures and futures.

We love the artwork created last year by Senior Aboriginal Community Engagement officer, Jarred Franey, so we decided to share it again.

We invite you to celebrate and learn more about Aboriginal art and culture by gathering together to colour in this beautiful mural. This activity is a great way to reflect on the meaning of reconciliation and how we are all ‘In This Together’.

“In This Together”: The story behind the artwork

The central part of the design shows the journey of the First Nations People. Coming together from far and wide in reconciliation – with guidance from spiritual elders and in harmony with mother nature – to share stories and culture. The main design – the connection line from the people to the meeting ground – was inspired by the shape and significance of the boab trees and the special connection it has to the land in the Kimberley.

The faint background design shows meeting places and the traveling journey connecting everyone together. The vibrations and soundwaves from the small meeting places are the voices of the community connecting and sharing their journey with one another.

We are all in this together to share and grow as one.
